Kwara Assembly confirms commission's nominees

Date: 2023-04-14

Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday confirmed the seven nominees of Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq for the chairman and members of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC).

The confirmation was considered at the committee of the house chaired by Speaker Yakubu Salihu, after screening on the floor of the assembly.

KWSIEC chairman and members were questioned, based on some of the challenges affecting free and fair elections in the country.

The nominees confirmed by the House include Muhammad Baba Okanla (Ilorin West) as Chairman, while Fredrick Sabi Abel (Baruten), Hassan Taiye Salami (Oyun), Gbedeyan Gbadura Yomi (Ekiti), Ndama Al-Hassan (Edu), Saka Baliqees Kehinde (Ilorin South) and Abdullahi Janet Amdat (Ilorin East) are to serve as members of the commission.

Responding to questions after their confirmation, Baba-Okanla said they would be impartial in the conduct of the local government election.

Speaker Salihu directed the Clerk, Hajia Halimah Kperogi, to communicate the resolution on the confirmation of the appointments to the governor.
