NUT commends Governor AbdulRazaq over housing estate plan for Kwara teachers, says it's a first
The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State, has commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over his planned housing scheme for teachers in the state.
The body described the initiative as a first in the history of the state, noting teachers are happy with the housing scheme.
Governor AbdulRazaq has turned around the education sector in Kwara State, as teachers get their salaries and entitlements as and when due unlike under the previous government where they suffered late payment, amputated salaries and non-payment.
The Governor has also embarked on a massive reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools across the three senatorial districts of the state, including capacity building trainings for teachers.
Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Chairman of Kwara NUT, Comrade Oyewo Muhammad Bashir, in an interview with the Herald, said the housing scheme is a welcome development, pledging total cooperation with the government.
He said, “It's a welcome development and it is the first time any government in Kwara State has taught it wise and deemed it fit to make teachers more comfortable. Therefore, I think the government of Mallam AbdulRazaq deserves huge commendation for the kindness.
”I believe that one of the most convenient things that human beings need and desire is comfortable accommodation. If the state government has deemed it fit to capture teachers with the intention of providing a housing estate where teachers would have the opportunity of getting their personal houses, I think is a welcome development and a thing of joy to NUT and teachers in general.
“We are glad about it. Indeed, we are looking forward to a good working relationship as we also pray for the realization of the project,” he added.
