Association calls for deployment of professional counselors in schools
The Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria led by its National President, Professor Ekundayo Ocholi, has called for the deployment of professional counsellors to various levels of the education sector in the country.
This was made known in a communiqué issued at the end of the sixth Annual International Conference of the association, which was held at the University of Ilorin.
According to the communiqué which was made available to our correspondent on Saturday in Abuja, the conference had in attendance the Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof Wahab Egbewole (SAN). It also witnessed two Keynote presentations by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr. Garba Abari alongside a Prof. Maximus Sefotho from South Africa.
The communique partly read, “The National President of APROCON, Prof Ekundayo Ocholi, decried the lack of professional counsellors in many schools which is far from what is expected in our educational system. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN) charged the association not to relent in her efforts in youth formation and reformation.
“APROCON made passionate plea for the following; the need for massive deployment of professional counsellors at all levels of our educational system to address moral decadence/deficits among school children and students.”
