Date: 2022-09-22

In a bid to further promote the farming and production of sesame and sorghum in Nigeria, local farmers in Bauchi state, have received training on crop cultivation to meet international standards and the modern procedures for exportation.

The two day event was organized by the Agricultural and Rural Management training institute Ilorin, with the aim of impacting the rightful knowledge to the targeted farmers.

The diversification of Nigeria's economy, from over dependence on crude oil has been a major goal that past and present administrations have prioritized for decades.

The export of agricultural produce and products, for which the country has comparative production advantage, is a viable alternative to diversify into, for sustained national foreign exchange earnings.

The Agricultural and Rural Management training Institute, says this workshop on export product development for sesame seed and sorghum will help in the move to diversify the nations' Economy.

The north east geo political zone of the country has very high comparative production advantage in these two commodities necessitating the training programme moving to Bauchi.

The training is aimed at developing a feasible and functional model for sesame seed and sorghum export, for improved foreign exchange earnings.

Identifying the challenges confronting stakeholders, in the production and post harvest handling of sesame seed and sorghum, as well as proffering solutions, were the areas the various Agricultural experts and facilitators took time to talk on.

Participants who spoke to TVC news shortly after the event see the event as timely and thank the organizers for coming up with the training workshop idea.
