Date: 2022-08-05

Government High School Ilorin Old Students Association has raised a sum of N1.5m for the treatment of cancer for a student of the school, Muritala Halima.

The fund raising for the school projects and the treatment of Halima were part of the events at the 55 years anniversary of Government High School and the second memorial prayer held for the late Alhaji AGF Abdulrazaq who was the founder of the school.

AGF Abdulrazaq who was the father of the governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, founded the school formerly known as Ilorin City College in 1967 as the first private secondary school in the entire Northern region in Nigeria.

Governor Abdulrazaq who attended the event tasked old students associations of secondary schools in the state to always remember their former schools.

“We expect you to remember your alma mater by investing in the schools as part of your social responsibility. Make sure your families, friends and associates get impacted by the school,” he said.

“The school was initially competing with Queen and Offa Grammar schools in those days. Then there were not more than 20 schools. Today we have more than 2000 schools in the state. GHS should occupy a pre-eminent position. It is one of the oldest schools.”

Earlier, the President of the Old Students Association of the School, Mallam Raji Mohammed, said that the association had raised funds for upgrading some facilities, which included resuscitation of hostels system in the school, provision of a school bus among others solicited for adequate security in the school.
