Security scholars begin study tour of Kwara
Olawepo-Hashim promises to end insecurity, if elected president Faculty members and participants of Course 15 of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja, yesterday, began a week-long study tour of Kwara State, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq giving them graphic account of socio-economic, security and environmental issues affecting the state.
During the courtesy visit to Government House, Ilorin, the governor discussed deforestation and flooding, oil and gas and cleaner energy; poverty and social investment programme of the administration; infrastructural deficits and ongoing efforts to bridge the gap; mining, agribusiness, climate change, transhumance, grazing reserves and herders-farmers' crisis; and activities of non-state actors and the efforts of his administration to deny them a toehold in Kwara, among other issues.
The discussion with the delegation was held off-camera because of its connection to national security.
Faculty Team Lead of NISS Course 15, Emmanuel Esomonu, who led a standing ovation for Abdulrazaq, described the governor presentation as truly eye-opening and overwhelming, adding: “This goes to show how prepared and knowledgeable you are for this important office”
The participants, comprising top security officers and high-ranking public servants, are on a tour of Kwara as part of their 10-month course in the institute, leading to the award of Fellow of Security Institute (FSI).
Theme of the study tour is 'Global Climate Change Challenge: Prospects and Priorities for Economic Development and Conflict Resolutions in Africa.'
MEANWHILE, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has promised an end to insecurity and unemployment problems in Nigeria, if elected the country's president.
He spoke yesterday in Ilorin, Kwara State, a week after he hosted party chairmen from North Central states in Abuja on his political ambition.
The APC aspirant said he moved to Ilorin for another round of consultation on his ambition with chairmen of the party across the existing 16 local councils.
At the parley, Olawepo-Hashim restated his desire to seek the ticket of his party, and subsequently lead the country back to the path of development in 2023.
While informing the gathering of his intention to formally declare for the race on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, he expressed his commitment to unite the country, which he said “is badly divided along ethnic and religious lines.”
