The Kwara State Police Command, on Friday, confirmed the abduction of a farmer by four armed men in Kwara South Senatorial District of the State.

Spokesman of the command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed to DAILY POST in Ilorin on Friday that "report of an abduction was received that at a remote farm settlement in Akere via Rore village, in Kwara South Senatorial District, one Shola Oladipo (m), a farmer was seized by four men said to be armed."

"The Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, has set in motion an all round effort through deployment of the command's tactical units in conjunction with local hunters and vigilantes to move into the surrounding bushes of the farm settlement to effect the rescue of the victim unhurt and possible arrest of the abductors," he stated.

The Omu-Aran Development Association, first broke the news of the kidnap incident.

President of the association, Major-General Lasisi Abidoye (RTD), confirmed the development in a statement by the association's spokesman, Olayinka Owolewa.

He said the victim was on Thursday abducted on his way to his farm near Rore, an adjoining community of Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The association described the development as unfortunate.

"Efforts are on to rescue him through the combined efforts of local hunters from Omu-Aran, Rore, Aranorin, the Civil Defence Corps and the Police force," the body added.

The association commended the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, for organising a prayer session aimed at ensuring that the community is ridden of criminals.

It further appealed to members of the community to report strange happenings in the area to security agencies or their compound chiefs and avoid harbouring or accommodating strangers without proper records into the town.
