Rainstorm kills two women in Kwara church

A rainstorm has killed two women in a church at Kajola, in the Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The storm which struck the community on Sunday, according to officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, killed a pregnant woman, identified simply as Funmi, and another woman known as Iya Isanlu in Boluwarin Church.

The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Kwara State Command, Babawale Afolabi, explained that the building of the church collapsed on the two women, leading to their death.

He said, "A pregnant woman called Funmi, as well as an aged woman, iya-isanlu, were killed.

"The remains of the two victim are been kept in the mortuary of the General Hospital, Omu-Aran."

He also disclosed that over 10 persons injured by the storm were hospitalised in the various hospitals.

He said, "The rainstorm also blew off rooftops in adjourning communities of Egosi-Ile and Odo-Owa, including to roof of a police station.

"It also broke electric poles and cables which plunged the communities into darkness."
