The Kikon of Gwaria in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Bawa Kikon, has appealed to the state government to upgrade social amenities in his community.

Bawa told City Rove that a poor road network is one of the major problems of the community.

He also said that the community lacks potable water, adding that the stream is the only source of water in the area.

He stated that a water project donated to the community by the immediate past governor of the state has not been functioning well.

The traditional ruler stated that Gwaria has been contributing immensely to internally generated revenue (IGR) of the state.

He said some of the farm produce harvested by farmers in the area are transported to some states in Nigeria, namely Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo.

He also appealed to government to assist in building an ultra modern market in the community with a view to enhancing daily transactions in the area.

“The people operate along Kaiama and Gwaria township road, which always create traffic congestion especially on market days”.

He also called on government to assist the people with good road and drainage.

He said if the amenities are provided, it would make life more comfortable for the people and also improves the social-economic activities in the area.
