The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has set up two ad hoc committees to carry out an assessment tour of communities affected by flood.

Also, a committee set up by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on flooding on Sunday called on the Federal Government to give special consideration to the state to address the ecological challenge.

Recall that the Ondo State governor recently ordered temporary closure of some primary and secondary schools that were submerged by the flood.

Also, many houses had been submerged and properties destroyed by the flood some communities such as Akungba Akoko, Owena, Ogbese, Igbotu, among others.

A student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Doyinsola Boluwaji, was swept away by flood last Tuesday.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Media and Publicity, Ojo Oyewamide, on Sunday, the government constituted the ad hoc teams to carry out an assessment tour of communities so affected by the natural disaster.

The statement read, "Among others, the teams are to ascertain the impact of the floods; number of communities affected; public property affected; the extent of damage to communities and suggest measures that could assist the state in her pursuit for succour from the Federal Government.

In Kwara State, the government called on the Federal Government to give special consideration to the state to address ecological challenges confronting it.

The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Isiaka Al-Amin, said the yearly overflow of the River Niger had cut off communities, destroyed farmlands and displaced thousands of people across the state, calling on the Federal Government to consider an urgent dredging of the river to end the perennial flooding.

The news briefing followed a sensitisation tour of flood-prone areas in the state by a committee set up by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The inter-ministerial committee, chaired by Al-Amin, was set up to lessen the impact of flooding in the state.
