Kwara Assembly Seeks FG's Intervention over Ilesha/Baruba-Okuta Road
The Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday appealed to the Federal Government and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to rehabilitate the Ilesha/Baruba Okuta road to fast- track vehicular movement on the road.
The Chairman, Committee on Energy, Works and Transport, Mr. Mashood Bakare, made the call during an inspection of the road by his committee, in response to a motion of urgent public importance by a member representing Ilesha Gwanara Constituency, Mr. Suleiman Sunaboro, on the road condition.
He said that the section of the road already handed over to the Federal Government was now filled with potholes while some sections had failed thereby hindering free flow of traffic along the route.
The legislator also urged FERMA to construct drainage at Subayo to tackle erosion in the area. He also directed the Consultant handling Kosubosu/Chikanda section of the road to come up with a new design of culvert at Gure, saying the current culvert had collapsed.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Road Transport Management Agency has impounded no fewer than 1,266 motorcycles.
The Assistant General Manager, Training and Administration, KWARTMA, Mr. Kolawole Abdulraheem, said, in an interview with our correspondent, that the owners of the motorcycles were arrested for various traffic offences.
He added that the development led to the agency impounding the motor bikes. According to him KWARTMA impounded 315 motorcycles in May, 298 in June, 441 in July and about 212 in August.
