Faith Based Organisation Campaigns Against Drug Abuse In Kwara

Date: 2019-05-05

A faith-based film organisation, The Truth Film Production International, on Saturday, staged a campaign walk across Ilorin metropolis to sensitise youths against drug abuse.

The campaign walk, which was in conjunction with the Porter's Porch International Churches, was tagged: "Kick out drug abuse from our society."

Mr Bolarin Olakunle, President of the organisation, lamented that drug abuse had become so alarming "that it has destroyed the lives of my youths.

He spoke during the campaign walk, on Saturday in Ilorin.

Olakunle, who said that drugs could kill and ruin lives, noted that some youths took to drugs while in secondary schools.

He said government at all levels must redoubled efforts, "especially in apprehending people who make such drugs available to the youths in the country."

According to him, the organisation will also stage a drama entitled: "XENO," which will portray the ills of drugs to youths in their productive years.

"We intend to use films and dramas to ensure that the youths see the end results of drug abuse," he said.

He explained that drama was one of the best ways to communicate with the youths to make them see the evils of engaging in drugs.

Olakunle, however, frowned at the music industry in the country alleging that "sometimes glorifies drugs usage."

Also speaking, Mrs Nihinlola Olawuyi, the Matron of Truth Film Production International, said the society at large was to blame for the present situation that the youths found themselves.

"We should blame ourselves. It is high time we work together, remain focus and say no to drug abuse," she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the youths during the rally carried placards with inscriptions such as: "Our resolution is drug free society," "Reach for stars, not drugs" and "Stop drug abuse before it stops you," among others. NAN
