Kwara: Man Held for Killing Wife's Lover
A 50 year old man, Bayi Ibrahim of Tabera Fulani Camp via Okuta, Kwara State, who allegedly killed a man suspected to be having a clandestine affair with his wife, has been remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prisons, Mandalla, Ilorin
The order to confine the man behind the walls was made by an Ilorin Magistrate Court, before which he was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide.
The accused was said to have entered the room of the deceased, Belko Aliyu of Gwette Village Fulani Camp via Yashikira and shot him on the head, after which he took to his heels.
Police from Yashikira Divisional Station, Kwara State swooped on the accused following a report on August 26 by Ahmadu Bio, a resident of the village, that the accused killed Belko Aliyu.
According to the complainant, while the deceased was sleeping in his house, an unknown person entered into his room and shot him to death.
The complainant further averred that he strongly suspected the accused because the deceased was having an affair with the former's wife, Salamatu Jawuro.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that upon the complaint, a team of police and vigilante men swung into action and trailed the suspected killer to his camp, where he was nabbed with a locally made pistol and live cartridges.
It added that during the investigation at the state CID Ilorin, the accused confessed to have killed the deceased with the locally made pistol.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Alhasan Jubril, informed the court that the offence committed by the accused was capital in nature and not ordinarily bail able.
He urged the court to turn down the bail application of the accused and remand him in prison custody Ilorin pending the outcome of police investigation.
Magistrate A.M Ahmed agreed with the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison Mandala and adjourned the case to October 2 for further mention.
