Man Allegedly Dies after Taking Herbal Mixture in Ilorin
Tragedy struck in Ilorin on Monday as a middle-aged man, Mumeen Sidiq died after his friend allegedly administered herbal mixture on him.
The incident, which occurred near Geri-Alimi round about behind Rosalla Store, threw residents and shop owners into confusion.
An eye witness revealed that the deceased popularly known as Alfa took the herbal concoction from his friend, Aremu Agbabiaka on Saturday and complained that he was very weak afterward.
It was also gathered that the victim told his parents that he was feeling feverish, prompting them to request for what he had eaten.
It was learnt that Sidiq died before medical attention could reach him.
However, when our correspondent visited late Sidiq family residence on Monday, mourners were seen discussing in group.
A willful drama occurred shortly when the mother of the deceased held the friend who allegedly administered the herbal concoction on her son, shouting that he was responsible for her son's death.
It took the intervention of residents and mourners before the poor woman could let go of the alleged killer.
Agbabiaka, however exonerated himself of any complicity in the Sidiq's death, saying that he had no issues with the deceased.
Though, he admitted that it was true that he administered the Ghanaian herbal concoction on the deceased, pointing out that he uses the herb whenever he feels feverish too.
An uncle to the deceased simply identified as Mr. Bolaji said the family would hand over the alleged culprit to the police for further investigation.
However, the spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Femi Fabode told newsmen in a telephone chat yesterday he was not aware of the incident.
