ITF, Kwara train youths in skill acquisition

Date: 2018-08-17

The Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund, Mr Joseph Ari, has said that the National Industrial Skills Development Programme is a solution to unemployment among youths in Nigeria.

He, therefore, stated that the ITF, through the NISDP, had commenced the training of 300 applicants in various vocations in Kwara State.

According to a statement on Tuesday, Ari, represented by the Area Manager, ITF, Ilorin Area Office, Mrs Mercy Oguntimehin, spoke during a courtesy visit to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State.

He said the beneficiaries were being trained in catering and event management, aluminium fabrication and installation, as well as tilling and Plaster of Paris.

He also said that the ITF, under its Women Skills Empowerment Programme, would train 30 indigent women in tailoring and fashion designing.

He said, "The programme, which is aimed at equipping Nigerians with requisite and hands-on skills for livelihood, has so far been well received by all and sundry, as it has provided beneficiaries of the previous phases the opportunity to become entrepreneurs and, in some cases, employers of labour."

Ahmed, in his response, said the state government would train 100 Kwara residents under the scheme.
