Date: 2018-08-16

Beneficiaries of Federal Government's Conditional Cash Transfer Programme in Offa Local Government of Kwara have disbursed N15 million as loans among members out of the N15 million saving made since inception.

Hajia Aminah Yahaya, the Head of the CCT in the state, disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Ilorin on the sideline of the one-day training on Beneficiaries Enrollment Process for Cash Transfer Facilitators in the state.

She said that the savings were from the N5,000 given to the beneficiaries by the Federal Government.

Yahaya said that this was one of the success stories of the programme in Kwara and evidence that the programme was yielding desired result.

She said that the money was disbursed because of those that signified to transact business during the coming Eid-Kabir period.

According to her, the programme has recorded a lot of success stories within its short period.

She said that by 2019, most of the beneficiaries would have graduated from poverty to a better level, which she said, was the motive of the programme.

On the training of facilitators, Yahaya said that re-enrolment process using a tablet, an electronic device for cash transfer programme was imperative. Yahaya said: "The training is necessary because of the proxy mean test which had been applied to the data of the beneficiaries we have and that we are using currently.

"The proxy mean test is a programme that we applied to the programme in order to filter and categorise the level of poverty of the beneficiaries. "For our programme, we are only interested in the poorest of the poor, those below absolute poverty line.

"By the time the filtering is done, those we are going to be enrolling now are going to be those below the absolute poverty line."
