Aremu joins Kwara governorship race

ONE of the leading figures in Nigerian labour movement and Vice President IndustriALL Global Union, Mr. Issa Aremu, Wednesday, declared his intention to run for the governorship of Kwara State in the 2019 general elections.

Aremu, who was a two-term Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and currently a member of its National Executive Committee, NEC, made his intention known while delivering the Nelson Mandela 100th Anniversary Posthumous Lecture in Ilorin.

Aremu, a student of former South African President, Nelson Mandela, used the 16th Nelson Mandela lecture to announce his intention on the platform of Labour Party, LP.

Aremu, General Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, is a political economist with Master's degree in Labour and Development from the Institute for Social Studies, ISS, in The Hague, Netherlands

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and is an alumnus of the George Meany Labour Centre, Maryland, Washington, USA (1987 and 2003).

Aremu joined the labour movement as Head of the Economic/Research Department of NLC. In August 1989, he joined NUTGTWN, and became its General Secretary 20 years later.
