Police Arrest 2 Vigilantes for Murder in Kwara
Kwara State Police Command has arrested two members of a vigilance group for the alleged murder of three persons in Patigi Local Government Area in Kwara.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Mr Chinwike Asadu, made the disclosure on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
Asadu said the killing of the three persons whose identity had yet to be ascertained occurred on Aug. 31 in Patigi.
He said that two members of the vigilance group in Patigi who allegedly committed the offence and threw the corpses into a river were being detained at the State Police Headquarters in Ilorin.
The commissioner said that police detectives were in Patigi for full investigation to unravel the cause of the killing.
"Whether the three dead bodies were thrown into the river or allegedly buried, when investigation is completed, the picture will be clearer," Asadu added.
The commissioner said that nobody from Patigi or elsewhere in the state had brought any complaint to the police against the three persons who were killed.
He warned members of the vigilance groups in the state against taking laws into their hands, stating that they were not an alternative force to the police or any other security agency.
Asadu advised the people of Patigi to remain calm and to cooperate with the police in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the commissioner had scheduled a meeting with executive members of vigilance groups in the state for Sept. 10, to review their activities.
