Kwara Assembly Calls on the FG to Reconstruct Moro Bridge

The Kwara States House of Assembly has called on member representing Ilorin West/Asa Constituency in the House of Representatives, Barrister Rasak Atuwa, to intervene in ensuring that the federal government reconstruct Moro bridge along Ilorin- Alapa- Igbeti -Kaiama- Baruteen -Benin Republic road to fast track vehicular movement along the international route.

This part of the resolutions of the House, followed on Matter of Urgent Public lmportance raised by a member representing Owode /Onire Constituency, Hon. Abdul Rasheed Taiwo Abdullahi on the collapsed Moro bridge.

The legislature disclosed that the reconstruction of the bridge became expedient, in view of the strategic importance of the road to the social- economic well being of the country and alleviate the current hard ship being encountered by the people of Asa,Kaiama and Baruteen Local Governments Areas ,Oyo state and motorists from Republic of Benin.

Reading the resolutions of the Parliament, the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, noted the collapsed bridge had defied palliative measures by the state government and well to do individuals in view of the volume of traffic on the international route, and urged the federal government to take urgent steps in proffering enduring solutions, by embarking on the reconstruction of the bridge in earnest.

Hon Abdul Rasheed Taiwo Abdullahi had while, raising the Matter of Urgent Public Importance, narrated the ordeal of motorists plying the road, since the collapsed of the bridge, noting the the socio- economic wellbeing of the people had been crippled due, to the collapse of the bridge.

The law maker, then appealed to National Assembly members from the state, to intervene, by liaising with the federal government, in reconstructing the bridge, which he said, had exposed motorists along the route to untold hardships.

Other members who spoke on the Matter, emphasised the socio- economic importance of the road to both Kwara and Oyo States as well as the nation at large, pointing out that the state government and affluent individuals had embarked on palliative measures on the bridge in the past, which according to them, didn't stand the test of time.
