Made in Nigeria : Kwara Assembly throws weight behind locally made products

...urges govt patronage for MAMMCOL electrical company

The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on government agencies, government Contractors to begin to patronise made in Nigeria products, especially, electrical products of MAMMCOL owned by an indigenous Kwaran, to promote the industry.

This is part of the resolutions of the House, following Motion on Notice, raised by a member representing Ilorin North West Constituency Hon. Abdul Rafiu Abdul Rahman.

Reading the resolutions of the House, the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, said the Legislature unanimously resolved , to appreciate,the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki for the campaign to patronise the usage of local Products.

The House, according to the Speaker, equally resolved to pick a day for the representatives of the three arms of government to visit the company, with a view to appreciating the ingenuity of the efforts and promoting the industry.

The Legislators then agreed to be wearing made in Nigeria materials on Wednesdays, to promote the campaign surrounding the need to patronise locally made materials currently being champion by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Meanwhile,the Kwara State House of Assembly has recorded feat in its bid at ensuring People Oriented legislation, by passing People With Disabilities bill into law.

The Bill tagged People With Disabilities Bill 2017 is a private member bill, sponsored by a member representing Ilorin East Constituency Hon. Aisat Bodunrin Ibrahim.

The Bill is aimed at addressing, physical, Attitudinal and organisational barriers against People With Disabilities in the State.

It would be recalled, that the Speaker had last year, promised People With Disabilities during a courtesy call, that the House would sponsor a bill aimed at permanently address the segregation and stigmatization against them.

The Speaker Dr. Ali Ahmad while directing the Clerk to the House,Alh. Ahmed Katsina Mohammad to prepare a clean copy for Governor's assent, assured that the State government would always be at fore front of States taken care of Peoples With Disabilities.

He said the legislature would continue to give needed support to vulnerable people, to further enhance their well-being, stressing that the bill would complement the Regional and Urban bill before the House for passage into law.

This according to him, would redress discrimination against them, provide rights to education, employment opportunities, freedom of expression, right to live as full members of the society and provide access for them in public buildings.
