Date: 2017-04-27

The Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya, has called on Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) to support the state government in its advocacy on tax payment.

The commissioner made the call during a courtesy visit by the state branch of CITN in his office on Monday.

He said, "Tax payment is part of the responsibility of all stakeholders in the state and you are professionals and in the forefront to enlighten Kwarans through your advocacy towards achieving this objective.

"I want to appeal to you as catalyst to enhance tax education among the people in the urban and rural areas to know the importance of revenue collection," he added.

Yahaya stated that it's through Internally Generated Revenue that the state government can intensify on massive infrastructural projects across the state.

The commissioner, who was awarded a meritorious award by the institute for his contribution to revenue collection in the state, assured that his ministry will continue to partner all stakeholders to boost revenue drive.

Earlier, the state Chairman of CITN, Alhaji Salaudeen Ibrahim, said that the institute has acknowledged the tireless efforts by the commissioner to boost revenue collection in the state. He stressed that the meritorious award is in recognition of his contribution to grow Kwara IGR.

According to him, the institute will continue to work with the ministry and other stakeholders to boost the economy of the state.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Works and Transport has pleaded with Kwara residents to avoid dumping of refuse in drainages across the metropolis. He tasked them to ensure indiscriminate disposal of refuse, which poses health hazards.

The commissioner who spoke to newsmen in Ilorin while reacting to the havoc caused by the heavy rain recently, stressed that government will continue to provide necessary support to curb flooding in the state. He also tasked all the contractors handling various road projects in the state to speed up work so that the rainy season will not slow down work.
