Kwara has Africa's highest illegal mining record - NSCDC

The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Mr Ideba Pedro, said Kura under Yahsikira Emirate in Baruten Local Government Area of the of state has the highest rate of illegal mining in Africa.

The commandant said the community which shares boarder with Benin Republic had foreigners who, with the aid of some Nigerians, were operating illegal mining bearing sophisticated weapons.

Pedro made the assertions in Ilorin when he received the President of the KWARA Chamber of Commerce, Industry , Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), Alhaji Ahmed Raji who paid an advocacy visit with his executives, urging the state government, KWACCIMA and other authorities concerned to check the activities of unlicensed miners operating in the state particularly in the local government areas that share borders with neighbouring countries.

Earlier, KWACCIMA president Ahmed Raji commended the NSCDC in the state for providing security for the people and their properties, and announced that all arrangement had begun by the chamber to organize a well-attended trade fair this year and called for the support of the various security outfits.
