Toyin Saraki shows love to the poor

Date: 2012-08-03

The Wellbeing Foundation (WBF) Alaafia Kwara has distributed food items to the poor, aged and infirm in Kwara State.

The nongovernmental organisation, as part of its activities to usher in the Ramadan, also organised a 'Peace Prayer Outreach' and launched the 2012 Ramadan Prayer Books to enrich the lives of five thousand Islamic faithful and intending pilgrims in Ilorin, Kwara. The books were distributed to schools and mosques.

The group encouraged all Muslims "to remain devout and practice Zakat by showing empathy to the less fortunate through acts of generosity and charity".

Founded by former first lady of the state, Toyin Saraki, the group has, in the previous decade, equipped over 5000 pilgrims annually with yearly pilgrimage essentials kits; an initiative that has now been adopted by the current Kwara State Government.

Speaking at the ceremony, Saraki stressed the importance of maintaining peace and non-violence in homes and communities and urged all to pray for pregnant women and children in conflict regions who do not have access to hospitals due to the existing curfew.

"This call for peace comes at an apt time as the Wellbeing Foundation Africa and other partners of Peace One Day’s Global Truce 2012 Campaign look forward to Peace Day 2012 on September 21st, a day of global non-violence," said Jesse Cheto, the group's spokesperson in a statement on Thursday.
