The 1989/1990 Engineering graduates of the University of Ilorin have donated 10 sets of computer systems to the Faculty of Engineering and Technology as a token of their appreciation to the University and in response to the call for Alumni to contribute to the development of their Alma Mater.
While presenting the computer systems to the Vice-Chancellor at the Vice-Chancellor's Office, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Y. A. Jimoh, said that the computers would be used for only undergraduate studies in the Faculty, adding that they would help the students to learn Engineering Design better.
The Dean also disclosed that the Faculty, as a result of the donation, would soon open a mini studio for the undergraduate engineering students.
The representative of the 1989/1990 Engineering set, Prof. O. A. Lasode, who presented the computer systems on behalf of his colleagues, said that they belief in giving back to the University, and explained that the donation is targeted at an area of need.
Prof. Lasode added that the systems are work-ready with licensed software to facilitate the study of Engineering Design.
While noting that members of the set are all over the world, he thanked the University for helping them to become the Engineers they have all become today.
He said that the set has not disappointed the University as "We are just paying back a fraction of what we have received from the University".
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON) thanked the set for empowering the Faculty of Engineering to produce quality Engineers, stressing that their action is worthy of emulation and celebration.
Prof. Ambali observed that their action is in conformity with global practice where Alumni contribute to the growth of their Alma Mater and called on all the Alumni of the University to remember their Alma Mater. He expressed the appreciation of the administration to the 1989/1990 Engineering Set for their kind gesture.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the group that the administration of the University is keeping the flag flying, ensuring that the University remains the topmost University in the nation. "Be rest assured that your Alma Mater is in good shape. The University is not going down. It is moving forward", Prof. Ambali stated.
Members of the Set at the presentation included: Dr. I. K. Adegun and Engr. Alabi T. Muyiwa. The sub-dean of the Faculty, Dr. T. K. Ajiboye, accompanied the group.
