A FATHER OF THREE, Abdulrazaq Haruna, whose wife wants a divorce over his drinking habit, yesterday told an Ilorin Area Court that he was not a drunk.

Haruna admitted that he drank beer but pleaded with the court to persuade his wife, RashidatOlayinka, to change her mind.

Olayinka, a resident of Adabata Area in Ilorin, had  told the court that she wanted their union dissolved on the ground that her husband was a heavy drinker.

She said Haruna was addicted to alcohol  and  never cared  about the welfare of the children.

"He does not care to provide for the  family and he is not ready to play a fatherly role.

"I have three male children by him and  I have been  the only one responsible for their feeding," Olayinka said.

She named their children as  Haruna 12, Isah ,9, Sheriff ,5, and urged the court to dissolve the marriage.

" I am tired of his habit and I don't  have any feeling  for him," Olayinka said.

However, Haruna urged the court not  to grant Olayinka's prayer but to give him a second chance to make amends.

The Judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case to Aug. 2 to enable the couple to be able to reconcile and report back to the court.
