'Prayer ground not campaign arena' - Amore

Date: 2016-09-09

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, Mr. Olusola Amore, has warned the residents of the state against turning Eid prayer grounds to campaign arenas.

He added that the police would not tolerate turning prayer grounds into arena, for the praise singing of politicians. The CP's warning was made known in a statement by the Kwara State Command's Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, on Thursday.

The CP also warned all intending lawbreakers, miscreants and other people of questionable character to shun unruly acts during the Eid-el Kabir celebrations in the state or face severe penalties.

Amore said some miscreants pelted some dignitaries with stones and sachet water at the Ilorin Eid prayer ground during last year's celebrations.

The CP said the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, was the symbol of sallah celebration and advised youth in their own interest to shun any act inimical to peaceful celebrations. He said, "Respect must be accorded to our fathers as symbolised by our royal father, the Emir of Ilorin." While wishing Muslim faithful a happy celebration, the CP stated that the police and other security agencies were prepared to ensure safety of lives and property of law-abiding citizens before, during and after the festival.
