Medical Exercise : 7 Players escapes death in NLO - Ogunnowo
What would have resulted in sudden deaths of seven players in the Nationwide League One this season had been averted in the on –going medical exercise of players and officials of clubs in the league, being supervised by Dr. Adebola Olajide, a member of FIFA Medical Network.
This was revealed by the scribe of the league body , Shola Ogunnowo while speaking to the sporting press in Abuja on Monday , as he noted that the results coming from the medical exercise conducted by the medical professionals have indicated that the exercise was not in futility and currently seven players from different clubs in the Division one failed the medical tests conducted and have been asked not to continue playing the round leather game in order to avoid untimely death due to the poor condition of their hearts and other vital organs.
"We have received some medical reports from our medical team across the federation regarding the state of the health of players and officials and the first set of medical reports did not indicate good news for seven players in some clubs in the division one of the Nationwide League One. A player from Musty FC of Kwara failed, another two players from Lubcom FC also of Kwara failed , then a player from Kwara United Feeders FC did not meet up with the required medical standard for a game of football", Shola Ogunnowo said.
He added further that : the medical reports also nailed two players from FC Abuja and a player from Top World FC of Ekiti State"According to the Scribe of the NLO, the medical exercise has revealed that some players are walking corpses on the field. Some of the players are having irregular pulse beat, very high blood pressure and even blood in their urine and all these medical ailments are unknown to their coaches, who in their ignorance have penciled and registered their names for the season, but fortunately, the medical exercise and the result coming from the exercise has shown that the league body was on the right path for insisting that medical examination must be conducted for all the players and officials before the commencement of the league.
"Some of these results are so shocking. Imagine one of the players had to confess during medical counselling that he was aware of his medical condition, but his coach was not aware and he could not play more than 30 minutes in a game. Most times, he will ask to be substituted by his coach."
Ogunnowo , was of the firm opinion that the league body will stick to the medical report concerning these players and ensure that they take a break from football and find medical solution to the hidden ailments that threatens to cut short their lives in their prime and NLO is glad with the sound professional medical reports coming from the medical team led by Dr. Adebola Olajide.
"Our medical team led by Dr. Adebola Olajide informed in his medical report that most of these players are not fit medically to play football and one of the players is even suffering from the heart ailment that threatened the football career of Kanu Nwankwo in 1996 unknowingly to him, his coach and his club."
"These players should be grateful to God for the medical tests that revealed these hidden medical ailments that would have cut short their lives on the field of play and we are glad that we have been able to avert another tragedy in Nigeria football" he concluded.
