In view of persistent flooding of Mandate along New Yidi Road in Ilorin Metropolis, the Kwara State House of Assembly has urged the state Ministry of Works and Transport to inspect the drainage along the New Yidi road with a view to finding an enduring solution to the flooding ravaging the area to salvaging life and property.

Ths followed a Matter of Urgent Public Important raised by a member representing Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe Constituency. Hon Ahmed ibn Muhammed on the dangers of continue flooding of mandate III due to the blockage of canal at the New Yidi road, there by threatening lives and properties.

A Deputy Speaker Elder Mathew Okedare while reading the resolutions of the House said the prompt intervention of the state Ministry of Works became expedient in view of the strategic importance of the road to the to the social economic well being of the state capital and the urgent need to protect lives and property the estate.

The House equally urged the state Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the state Housing Corporation and the state Town Planning Development Authority to adhere strictly to the master plan of Ilorin Metropolis to avert unnecessary loss of lives and properties.

Hon ibn Muhammed had while raising the Matter of Urgent Public Importance noted that the major drainage across the New Yidi road had collapsed there by making at least six Buildings in the Estate to be vulnerable to flooding.

Other members who spoke on the matter described the flooding in the area as reoccurring which they said should be permanently addressed by relevant government agencies to avoid unforeseen circumstance.

They equally blamed the state Town Planning Development Authority for approving illegal construction in some part of the state capital there by aggravating the problem of flooding in Ilorin Metropolis.

The Leader of the House Hon Hassan Oyeleke equally threw the attention of the House to the deplorable Idi- Ogun junction and called on relevant government agencies to promptly rectify the road junction and other bad roads in Offa Local Government Area.
