Industrialist calls for constitution of Ilorin Emirate Economic Council
An industrialist, Alhaji Aminullahi Adisa Logun, has called for the constitution of Ilorin Emirate Economic Council to integrate all viable socio-economic development of the Emirate.
Alhaji Adisa Logun made the call on Tuesday while delivering the keynote address at the third biennial National Conference of the Centre for Ilorin Studies, University of Ilorin with the theme "The Socio-economic development of Ilorin Emirate since the 20th century."
The Industrialist said it was unfortunate that all industrial estates and parks in the Ilorin Emirate had been turned to residential areas, events centre and sightings of filling stations.
Alhaji Adisa Logun noted that the State is at lower social economic level in terms of income and what people consume.
He called for deliberate establishment of socio economic projects in outpost of the Ilorin Emirate as it was done in Malete through the establishment of the state university. Also speaking, the Former Minister of State for Education and the Chairman of the Occasion, Alhaji Saka Saadu, who described Ilorin as the Centre of Islamic knowledge, said the Ilorin Emirate had produced scholars of international reputes in all fields.
Alhaji Saadu stressed the need to revamp the olden days trades of the Ilorin people such as pottery and beads making, weaving and leather works. He urged entrepreneurs to key into this as government could not only shoulder the responsibility of employing people.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali said the Centre since its establishment had been at the forefront of promotion scholarship and deepening knowledge about Ilorin Emirate.
"The socio economic development of Ilorin emirate which was founded in the 19th century was massive as the city expanded and prospered such that it became a force to be reckoned with in virtually all spheres of human endeavors," Professor Ambali explained.
The Vice Chancellor therefore noted that the conference is poised to widen the knowledge on such essential commodities of development that can be adopted and adapted with Ilorin Emirate as a case study.
The Director of the Centre and Chief Imam of Auchi, Professor Zakariyyau Oseni, noted that the mandate of the Centre is to collect and preserve electronic and hard copies of publications relating to Ilorin Emirate.
