BVN: Kwara to treat defaulting employees as ghost workers - Official

Date: 2016-04-19

Civil servants in Kwara State who fail to meet the Friday deadline for submission of their Bank Verification Number will be treated as ghost workers, an official of the government, has warned.

The official, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, spokesman to Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Ilorin that the government had already notified the unions of the deadline.

Akorede said: "Workers in the state who fail to meet the Friday deadline for the submission of their BVN will be considered and treated as ghost workers.

"That is the stand of the state government now as far as the issue is concerned. "The unions and other stakeholders have been notified to carry their members along."

Akorede said the government had embarked on enlightenment campaigns in the print and electronic media to sensitise the workers on the issue. NAN recalls that the government commenced physical screening of its employees in March, 2016.

In the course of the exercise, 324 workers were discovered to be linked to 659 multiple bank accounts.
