Workers' Salaries: APC commends Gov Ahmed

Date: 2016-04-14

The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has commended the State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed for exploring all means in ensuring that workers are paid regularly, despite the prevailing economic challenges.

The party in a statement issued by the its publicity secretary, Buhar Olatunji, noted that the commendable effort in ensuring regular payment of workers' salaries could be better appreciated when it is recalled that it has remained a national problem.

The party said it was heartwarming Gov. Ahmed has brought his administrative and financial acumen to bear positively on the financial management of the state's resources, despite the perennial shortfall in earnings from the federation account.

According to the APC, even the federal government, as widely reported in the media, has been borrowing "about N600bn monthly to pay salaries of its workers".

The APC, however, appealed to some segments of the State and local government workforce still experiencing delay in the payment of salaries to continue to bear with the state government, promising that the APC controlled state government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the challenge is overcome.

The party was optimistic that the on going biometric verification of workers and pensioners in the state will create a credible and sustainable platform that would aid regular payment of workers' salaries and pensions.
