NACCIMA, Kwara highlight path to agric growth
As part of efforts towards sustainable Agricultural development and diversification of Nigeria’s economy, the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and Kwara State Government have called for the repositioning of the agriculture sector in order to actualise the Transformation Agenda.
The Chairman, NACCI-MA Agric Trade Group, Mr. Tunji Olukoya, who spoke recently in Ilorin, Kwara State during the Group’s official visit to the Deputy Governor said that to revi-talize the economy, there is urgent need for Government and the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to work in partnership so as to achieve food sufficiency and boost export potentials in a manner that will make Nigeria to belong to the first 20 Agricultural nations in the world by 2020.
He recalled that agricul-ture was the mainstay of the economy before the advent of Oil and Gas.
According to Olukoya, the purpose of the Group’s visit to Kwara State was to understudy and tap into the agricultural potentials of the state. The visit, the group said is in recognition of Kwara State Government’s role as one of the leading partners with the OPS towards enhancing the growth and development of Agriculture in the country.
He added, “The Group embarked on this visit because Agriculture holds the key to the immediate turn-around of our economy as over 60 per cent of Nigerians are engaged in this sector for their livelihood”.
