Why Unilorin remains on top - Director

The Director University of Ilorin, Centre for Research and Development and In-House Training (CREDIT), Professor (Mrs) Temidayo Oladiji, has identified training and retraining of staff as the secret behind the leading position of the University in the country.

Oladiji commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede for his dedication and commitment to building the capacity of the institution's staff towards projecting the image of the university to a world class status.

She stated this recently in her opening remarks at a day workshop organised by the centre on "Equipping Staff for Optimum Performance" held at the University's Auditorium.

She said the workshop was to train newly employed senior staff of the University in line with the expectation of the university and best practices.

According to her "The main objective of this workshop is to improve staff performance on the job as this will further improve institutional performance and global rating. Therefore, this event has a direct contribution towards achieving the university's competitiveness and academic excellence in research, training and outreach endeavors."

The director noted that the theme of the workshop, "Equipping Staff for Optimum Performance" became pertinent due to performance-driven nature of the institution.

She also charged the participants to take fullest advantage of the workshop to enhance their productivity at work and at the home front.

Oladiji expressed gratitude to the participants for their attendance saying their presence testified to the importance they attached to acquisition of knowledge through in-house training.

The director commended the university management for putting the programme in place, discussed five other themes including: Personal Organization: A Self Development Tool to Enhance Performance, The Role of Effective Team Building in Improving Performance, Goal Setting and Personal Evaluation as Key to Productivity, Internationalization and Personal Development and Effective Website and Portal Usage by University staff.

In her presentation on Personal Organization: A Self Development Tool to Enhance Performance, the Registrar, Ajayi Crowder University, Oyo State, Dr. Mrs. Josephine I. Oyebanji commended University of Ilorin and its CREDIT for their ingenuity in the topics of the workshop.

Oyebanji charged every worker to seek to contribute to the growth and progress of his place of work by striving to improve on his work performance on daily basis.

Towards being personally organised, the registrar stressed the need for every employee to be time conscious, prepare check-lists or To-Do Lists, set standard, goals and targets, be focused, keep records and know his schedule of duties.

Oyebanji added that an employee must also delegate duties, develop good working relations skill and seek a balance between work and home and know the rules and regulations of his organization.

According to her, personal organization was the ability of a person to bring order and orderliness into his daily affairs and work through conscientious planning and arrangement of what needed to be done.

It would be recalled that the centre was established in 2008 with the aim to promote excellence in research, development and in-house training that would enhance optimum performance of the university's staff and students in its bid to attain a world-class status
