Workshop in Ilorin: FCC frowns at Oronsaye c’ttee’s recommendation
Federal Character Commission (FCC) has noted with dismay that the recommendation of the Steve Oronsaye Committee for its abrogation is not in the interest of the commission which should be insulated from partisan politics.
The commission in a communiqué of a two-day workshop held in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, for the North-Central zone, reached a consensus that the rate of insecurity in the country was due to high level of unemployment.
The communiqué signed by the Prof. Shuiab Oba AbdulRaheem, the Executive Chairman of the commission, and Prof. Gbenda Batur-Laha of Benue State University, Makurdi, stated that the commission believe that peace and equity in the nation should be paramount agenda of every citizen.
"The workshop notes and agrees that the basis of peace and unity in all federal systems of government is the practice of equity and fairness. It therefore called on governments at all levels and employers of labour in Nigeria to ensure equity and fairness in making political and public service appointment as well as the provision of socio-economic amenities and infrastructural facilities so as to give every citizen a sense of belonging".
The commission which commiserated with the victims of the DANA Air plane crash in Lagos, and appealed to the all airline operators in Nigeria to intensify efforts on improving their services to prevent avoidable deaths.
