Don Calls for Value Reorientation

A Don, Dr. Abdulwahab Olanrewaju Issa has called for the reorientation of our value system in Nigeria to move the nation forward .

Dr. Issa who is the acting Head of Department, Library and Information Science, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin made the call while answering questions on Playing Host, a Radio Kwara personality interview programme.

The don who is a library scientist said the political leaders and elites should go back to the community and get their bearings right for social, economic and development of the country, lamenting that the society right from the home front had been seriously polluted.

He also called for a total overall of the nations constitution so as to conform with the present challenges of our polity.

Dr. Issa disclosed that as moulders of the society,the academia have a great role to play in this direction and not only imparting on the students academically but moulding them to become future leaders.

The Don described the present day library set up as mere collection of irrelevant, outdated and obsolete books which is beyond what a library is meant for especially with the advent of Information Technology and the lukewarm at of students to reading culture which he described as highly disturbing .

Dr. Issa appealed to all tiers of government to embark on long term planning to improve the country's educational values, expressing regrets that most parents have abandoned their responsibilities of taking proper care of their children and wards while government needs to be more responsive to the service of humanity.

He urged the federal government particularly the eighth National Assembly to look into the disparity in the salaries of state and federal civil servants as well as the HND certificate and BSC degree holders in the polytechnics and universities, lamenting that such disparities were not justifiable
