Thousands scramble for MTN jobs in Kwara

Mammoth crowd of job seekers in Ilorin, Kwara State at the weekend stormed the venue of job interview for customer care services jobs of the telecommunication giant, MTN.

The interview, it was reliably gathered, was to employ less than 50 applicants but the youths who thronged the venue of the interview were more than a thousand. The exercise was conducted at an events centre along Offa road, Ilorin.

Daily Trust learnt that some of the applicants were contacted through text messages while others who did not receive the communication also attended the interview. There was heavy traffic along the road on Friday as the exercise was ongoing.

However, some of the applicants accused the interviewers of bias, saying the way the recruitment process was carried out gave room for preferential treatment.

It was observed that many of the applicants who came for the interview session were not attended to.

An applicant who refused to be named said, "The process of the interview was defective. You can see that some people were not attended to. This obviously smacks of bias and favouritism.

"Some of us received text messages for this interview while others got the information from friends that they could also participate in the exercise. But I must say that many of the applicants were not satisfied with the way they conducted this interview.

"We expect that as a reputable organization, it would have been better if it was centralized given the high number of applicants expected here.

"As it is now, our fate hangs in the balance even for some of us that personally received text messages". The applicants appealed to the MTN to tidy up the process. They suggested that the recruitment process should have been centralized.

The recruitment officials and interviewers at the venue declined comment when contacted by our Reporter.
