Police Recover Day-Old Baby Abandoned in Ilorin
A day-old baby boy, believed to have been abandoned by his mother was found in Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday morning.
The fnew baby boy was abandoned in a carton along Adelodun road, GRA in Ilorin where some good Samaritans noticed him and put a call through to the distress call centre of the state police command.
A patrol team of the A-Division police team was sent to evacuate the baby from the spot where he was taken straight to the Civil Service Clinic for medical attention.
Our correspondent who was at the clinic sighted the police team that brought the abandoned baby for treatment.
One of the officers who spoke with Daily Trust on condition of anonymity because he was not authorize to speak said, "The baby was abandoned this morning at that spot. Someone who I believe has the distress call number of the Nigerian Police, Kwara Command, telephoned our office and a team from A-Division was sent to work on the information.
"When our officers got there, the fresh baby was found neatly packed inside the carton. And we took the newly born baby straight to the office and then to the Civil Service Clinic in Ilorin here where he was given proper medical care".
It was learnt from hospital sources that the baby who weighs 3.5kg is in good condition and ready to be handed over to the Social Welfare Department of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Already, officials of the Department were at the clinic to receive the abandoned baby as of the time of filing this report.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara state police command Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi said he was yet to be briefed of the incident.
