Kwara Council Workers Urge Gov Ahmed To Pay Their Salaries
The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), in Kwara, has appealed to Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed to pay it member's five month-salaries.
The Secretary of NULGE in the State, Abayomi Afolabi, made the call in a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday.
He said in the statement that the payment would put an end to their agonies and embarrassments.
The statement said several entreaties made to the governor over the salary issue had not yielded results.
It accused the governor of being different and insensitive to their plight by the non- payment of their five month-salary arrears.
"We have written series of letters to the government on the issue to no avail."
It called on traditional rulers in the state to mediate in the matter before it gets out of hand.
"We have to join our colleagues in other states who had embarked on strike a long time ago. We have suffered untold hardships due to the unpaid salaries and allowances."
The statement said most members had withdrawn their children from schools as they could no longer pay fees.
It added that many of them were indebted to food vendors, landlords and many others. (NAN)
