Group tackles Tinubu on Senate leadership

Date: 2015-06-02

The APC Media Forum, Kaduna State Chapter, has tackled the All Progressives National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his alleged support for Senator Ahmed Lawan (APC, Yobe) to be the Senate president.

The group, through its secretary, Alhaji Mustapha Jarfa, who spoke with newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, alleged that Tinubu wanted to single-handedly pick Senator Lawan Ahmed to be the leader of Senate.

For the past few weeks there have been an unending debate and battle on who will assume the leadership of the red chamber, and Senator Bukola Saraki (APC, Kwara) and Senator Lawan Ahmed (APC, Yobe) are front runners.

"I can remember when APC conducted its presidential primary Bola Tinubu asked the party delegates to vote for Buhari, while there are other presidential aspirants like former Vice President Atiku, Dr. Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha and Sam Nda-Isaiah. We decided to keep quite in order to have smooth and peaceful primary, but we weren't happy with what he did," he said.

He added that what APC will do for the former PDP members that decamped to the APC in 2013 is the emergence of the Senate president from their camp and Senator Saraki has all the qualities to succeed as the Senate president due to his vast experience.

He explained that Saraki was Kwara State governor for eight years and is in the Senate for four years, claiming that if he emerged as the Senate president he would propel this country to greatness.
