Date: 2015-05-18

The Kwara State Government has promised to re-construct the burnt Owode market, Offa, through a public-private partnership arrangement. The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed disclosed this on Sunday at Offa, shortly after inspecting the section of the market where over one thousand shops and goods estimated at billions of naira was destroyed.

The Governor also announced that the State and Offa Local Government would give soft loans to shop owners affected by the fire disaster to assist in rehabilitating their respective businesses.

He noted that the preliminary report indicated that the incident was not unconnected with power surge and expressed displeasure that the fire disaster had affected the victim's means of livelihood.

Electrical appliances

Governor Ahmed urged the people of the state to be vigilant at all times and put off electrical appliances when not in use at homes and shops to avert fire disaster in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman, Offa Local Government Council, Prince Waheed Olanipekun accompanied by the National President of Offa Descendants Union, Alhaji Najim Usman Yasin conducted Governor Ahmed round the Foodstuff, Jewelries, Palm oil and Tailoring materials section affected by the fire disaster.
