Kwara Assembly Tasks Buhari On Power
The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday advised the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari to prioritise the revitalisation of the nation's moribund power sector to improve the nation's economy.
The House made the call in its resolution after adopting an observation on poor power supply made by the member representing Ilorin East constituency, Hajiya Nimata lbrahim under matter of urgent public importance.
The House resolution which was read by the deputy speaker, Prof Gana Yissa, who presided over yesterday's plenary, urged the incoming government to aid development through the power sector.
The House noted that poor electricity supply from the generating company has affected the nation's economy negatively and paralysed social and economic activities, lamenting that residents of the state are not getting value for the electricity bills that they pay.
Also, during yesterday's plenary, the Private Public Partnership Bill 2015 passed first reading.
The motion for the first reading of the bill was moved by the majority leader of the House, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu AbdulKareem and seconded by Alhaji Mande Aliyu (APC), representing Banni/Adena constituency.
The bill was sent to the House on Tuesday for passage into law by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The deputy speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Business and Rules for further consideration.
