Kwara CAN Denies Involvement in Hate Video Against Buhari

Date: 2015-03-20

The Kwara state chapter of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denied claims that the body is working with the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Simeon Ajibola to launch campaign of calumny against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

The CAN chairman in the state, Prof. Timothy Opoola made the clarification during an interview with newsmen in Ilorin.

Opoola emphasized that the body is not against any party or candidate vying for any position in the forthcoming general elections.

He said CAN comprises of churches with members belonging to different parties, adding that it is not possible for members of a church to belong to one party at any given time.

"Even in some families, members of the family have diverse interests as far as their political affiliations are concern talk less of CAN which comprises of several churches", he added.

Opoola said that the body had at no point in time declared support for any of the presidential candidates or promoted hate speech against any one of them on the basis of their religious affiliations.

"We have consistently maintained our stand on this and we have announced repeatedly that people should go and collect their Permanent Voters Cards and vote according to their conscience.
