Kwara: Immigration Service deports 120 Nigerien, Beninoise immigrants
Nigeria Immigration Service, Kwara State Command has arrested, deports 120 irregular immigrants in the state.
Mr. Adeyemi Adesola, PRO, in the state command said “It is our usual mop-up exercise. Periodically we go in the state and make sure that we rid illegal or irregular immigrants in the state.”
“We have 120 of them 23 from Benin Republic, 97 from Niger Republic. This morning, our men went out on our usual raid, and they were able to fish out these ones in Offa, Kaiama and Ilorin.
“Also coincidentally this morning during the raid in Ilorin, the noticed a lorry conveying about 46 passengers suspected to be Nigeriens. They moved in, intercepted the vehicle and at the end of the day, our profiling
revealed that they are truly from Niger.”
This is what we do from time to time. It is an exercise that is periodical. From time to time, we go round and ensure that we rid the state of irregular immigrants.
But 120 people being arrested in a day. In our findings, we could not establish that they have come to be
involved in electoral malpractise or electoral process. We could not find anything on them that showed that they came for election but we should move to make sure that we nip in the board any security threat.
“46 of them were from Katsina on their way to Osun State. During our raid this morning, coincidentally we pounced on them and discovered that they are none Nigerian.
From our profiling, some of them are going for the first time and some have been there for a while, not up to a year. They have been doing menial jobs. Those going for the first time also claimed that they were going to do menial jobs. But we are ready to make sure that we return them back to their countries.
These people are ECOWAS citizens. Our reason for returning them to their countries is because they do not have travel documents.
I would want to advice them that if they really want to come to Nigeria to do anything, they should go down through the laid down procedure.
Again, I want to implore all Kwarans to be vigilant because the best security begins with individuals. So whenever they have information, they should make it available to the necessary authorities.
We have profiled them and we are so sure that they are not Nigerians. The next step is to repatriate them to their countries,” He said.
