Protect our members from PDP thugs, Kwara APC tells Police.

Date: 2015-02-06

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwara State chapter has called on Kwara State Police Command to, without delay, protect and halt further attacks on its members by rampaging thugs sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Publicity Secretary of APC in Kwara State, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the party said the continous attack on its members by PDP thugs is condemnable and unacceptable.

"Barely 24 hours that our campaign train and members were ambushed and attacked in Isapa by PDP thugs loyal to PDP governorship candidate in Kwara State, another group of PDP thugs sponsored by the Kwara South Senatorial Candidate of PDP, Mr Lola Ashiru, have attacked APC members in Oyun today (Thursday).

"At the moment, five members of our party have been rushed to the hospital for prompt medical care and attention.

"We condemn the continous attack on our party members by armed thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State. This violent trend is unfortunate and unacceptable. This trend must not be allowed to continue by the security agencies in Kwara State.

"As a matter of reality, APC members and supporters represent the majority bloc as the fact shows that we represent over 65% of the voting population in Kwara State. It is important and essential to note that despite our huge population across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State, no PDP candidate or member has ever been harassed or attacked by our party members.

"The fact that a governorship candidate and a senatorial candidate of the PDP have been indicted in reported cases in violence goes a long way to show that violence is the ideology of the PDP in Kwara State.

"The security agencies in Kwara State should perform their constitutional duties. We call on the Kwara State Police Command to, without delay, protect and halt further attacks on our members by rampaging PDP thugs in Kwara State. These reported cases of violence should be investigated and the outcome should be made public.

"We reiterate that our members and supporters should resist the temptation to embark on any reprisal attack. APC is a peaceful party and our commitment to peace is stable, steady and unwavering.", the statement read.
