Kwara PDP To Reconcile Aggrieved Members, Says State Chairman
The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, has debunked claims of rumoured "presidential aid" in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Oyedepo, while speaking with The Guardian Friday in Ilorin, members of the party have embarked on serious hard work to win the forthcoming elections, "and not relying on any help that is no longer feasible anywhere again in Nigeria."
He disclosed his planned meeting already scheduled for Monday with all the candidates of the party for the forthcoming polls. The meeting, which will come up in Ilorin is also expected to have in attendance all the aspirants who lost out in the primary elections.
According to him, "election rigging or assistance is no longer feasible anywhere in Nigeria's democracy. Members of the PDP in Kwara state do not believe the rumour of any assistance from the presidency.
"We believe in hard work and that is what we had since embarked on. There is no longer anything called 'Federal Might' in Nigerian democracy. I am serious about this. Federal assistance in electoral matters had seized in Nigeria since the year 2011."
The PDP local leader, who said the entire PDP family has endorsed the candidacy of Simeon Ajibola for the governorship poll in the state, urged eligible voters in Kwara to desire a political change and make it a reality. "What we need in Kwara today is a real change. We need to try other platform because the existing platform for the past 12 years has not churned out the desired democratic gains for our people. It is not about Ajibola, it is about the platform we are offering the people of our dear state," he said.
