Re – Kwara PDP Names Flag Bearer May 29

Date: 2010-05-23

Contrary to media reports that the flag bearer of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2011 governorship race in Kwara State would be unveiled on Democracy Day, May 29, is far from the truth.

The leadership of the party in the State wishes to correct the erroneous impression created by the media report that May 29 celebration would be used to mark the 7th year Anniversary of the purposeful administration of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and not to unveil the standard bearer of the party. The anniversary would also, among other things, showcase the achievements recorded in the various sectors which culminated in the unprecedented transformation the State has witnessed since the inception of the present administration in 2003.

It should be noted that the leadership of he party, has time without number, maintained that due process would be strictly adhered to in the emergence of the party flag-bearer for the 2011 gubernatorial election.

Therefore, the May 29 date being touted as the time for the emergence of a standard bearer for the party in the State was the imagination of the author of the report.
As a party which places high premium on due process would not violate the laid down procedure as the on-going constitutional amendment has not been concluded, the guidelines for the procedure were still being awaited and until all those processes are completed, the would-be flag-bearer cannot in any way emerge. All party members and supporters across the State are hereby enjoined not to be distracted by the media report as the leadership of our great party would continue to uphold and follow due process that it is known for.

Party leaders, members and supporters are however assured that as soon as all the necessary processes were completed, the touch bearer for the party in the 2011 gubernatorial race in the State would be unveiled.

Special Assistant on Media to the Kwara State Governor.
