Oyedepo seeks reconciliation of aggrieved Kwara PDP elders

Date: 2014-09-22

Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, the Peoples Democratic Party Chairman in Kwara, on Sunday urged the Elders Committee of the party to reconcile all aggrieved members in the state.

Oyedepo made the plea in Ilorin while inaugurating a 61-member State Elders' Committee of the party headed by Haliru Kaima.

The chairman specifically asked the elders to resolve the crisis rocking the leadership of the party in Ilorin West Local Government area.

Oyedepo also appealed to them to ensure the smooth emergence of the party flag bearers, especially the governorship candidate, ahead of the 2015 general elections.

He enjoined the elders to raise fund for the party to enable it to face the challenges of winning the elections in the state.

According to him, the party will need average of N500,000 daily as running cost.

"Running a political party is very expensive, we need N500,000 daily while at the same time we do not want any governorship aspirant or an individual to solely finance the party."

Oyedepo said that allowing a money bag to dominate and dictate to the party would be detrimental to the ideal of collective ownership of the party.

He said, "for PDP to be truly free from the shackle of individuals, sole sponsorship of the party must be discouraged."

In his remark, a member of the committee from Kwara North, Alhaji Baba Zuruk, said, "when you have elders in place things will be straightened and when you have elders with manners, things hardly go wrong."
