Clash Looms over APC Guber Ticket in Kwara

Date: 2014-08-10

Ahead of the 2015 governorship election in Kwara state, political office holders serving under the current administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed may cross each other over the ticket of the governorship position of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Already, the political office holders in Kwara South senatorial district in the state have formed a committee headed by the present commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu to mobilise the people of the district on the need to join hands together to allow the senatorial district to get the second term ticket for governor Ahmed.

Even, the people of the senatorial district under the Kwara South Consultative Forum recently at a press conference in Ilorin appealed to the political leader of APC in the state, Senator Bukola Saraki, to give the second term ticket to incumbent governor of the state, Alhaji Ahmed come 2015.

The development, according to THISDAY checks, might not be unconnected with the current agitation from certain quarters in the state to return the governorship ticket of the APC in the next year general election to Kwara central senatorial district in the state because the senatorial district enjoys majority number of voters in the state

It was gathered that the people of Kwara central senatorial district were also said to be interested in the governorship position of the state despite the fact that, the senatorial district had occupied the position for twelve years, four years during late former governor Muhammed Lawal and eight years of second term during the immediate past governor of the state and now senator representing Kwara central senatorial district at the national assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki.

Sources close to the Kwara South senatorial district said the prevailing opinion there especially within the APC circle is that the senatorial district should be allowed to take the second term ticket in 2015 by allowing the incumbent governor, Alhaji Ahmed to retain his seat for the next four years.
There are also those who believe that in the interest of equity and justice Kwara South should have second term while the slot should go to the North senatorial district thereafter.
