Maigari Leads NFF Team to Yekini's Prayer
NFF President Aminu Maigari will be at the head of Nigeria Football Federation's delegation to the eighth day prayer for departed Super Eagles' legend, Rashidi Yekini.
The prayer holds in his family compound in Ira, Kwara State in the morning of Saturday, May 12.
Other members on the delegation are NFF 1st Vice President, Chief Mike Umeh, Executive Committee members High Chief Emeka Inyama and Dr. Shehu Adamu, Kwara FA chairman Busari Ishola, NFF Match Commissioners' Appointment Committee chairman, Kunle Adesiyun and former international midfielder and NFF President's personal assistant, Nasiru Jibril.
The NFF President was in the United Kingdom when Yekini, Nigeria's record international goalscorer, died after a brief illness in Oshogbo, Osun State on Friday, May 4.
His remains were interred at his family compound in Ira, Kwara State the following day with NFF Executive Committee member, Olaleye Adepoju, Chairman of Kwara State FA, Busari Ishola, Chairman of NFF Match
Commissioners' Appointment Committee, Kunle Adesiyun and Executive Secretary of the Nigeria National League, Mr. Ayo Abdulrahaman representing the Federation.
It is understood that the NFF President will also use the occasion to announce a few things the Federation will embark upon immediately to immortalize the fallen star.
On Thursday, in Abuja, Maigari said he was shocked at comments by some persons that the NFF 'abandoned' the megastar.
"It is incorrect to say that the NFF abandoned the late football hero. We made several efforts to reach him, and even announced it in the media sometime last year that we were looking for him. We went beyond that to send several persons to Yekini but he just didn't want to have anything to do with anybody, apparently.
"Those who are talking know the truth. They also know that no NFF administration has done as much as we have to bring to the fold colleagues of late Yekini in the Super Eagles, and other ex-international players. This is a fact," said Maigari.
Maigari was in London on Sunday to attend the launching of a Foundation owned by Nigerian international striker, John Chukwudi Utaka.
