'Boko haram insurgency hatched to tarnish Islam' - Kunle Sanni

Date: 2014-07-11

Former President of the National Council of Muslim Youths (NACOMYO), Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni, has said the Boko Haram insurgency is "a conspiracy hatched to tarnish the image of Islam and tag Muslims as violent and rebellious people".

Sanni, who is also chairman, Ibadan Muslim Community in Oyo State, stated this while delivering the Ramadan lecture series organised by Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria (IMAN) in Ilorin.

Speaking on the topic, "Western Propaganda Against Islam", the Islamic scholar tasked the government to face the challenge of Boko Haram head-on, noting that with sincerity of purpose on its part, the insurgents would be conquered. He maintained that the Nigerian military has the capacity to defeat Boko Haram.

He further called on Muslims to live in accordance with the Quran and traditions of Prophet Mohammed in order to surmount the challenges confronting the religion.

"Allah will not change the conditions of people until they make efforts to change their conditions. He has given us guidelines in the holy Quran on how we are supposed to live our lives", he said.
